About Me
Zana is an accomplished English and French speaking Senior Applied Economist with 25+ years experience in leading agricultural improvement and public health systems strengthening activities, especially in Africa. Born and raised in Burkina Faso, Zana moved to the United States in 1982 where he completed two doctoral degrees (horticulture, agricultural and applied economics) from the University of Georgia in Athens. Zana remains based in Athens, Georgia, USA with his wife and daughter. His dedication to his profession has afforded him and his family with opportunities to live and travel all over the world including Ghana, Nigeria, and Washington D.C.
Prior to his public health assignments, Zana worked in agricultural research institutions and agribusiness sectors. Throughout his career, he has determined the appropriate analytical methods and procedures for new assignments and both implemented and managed junior technical staff and consultants in carrying them out. While his career has followed an unconventional trajectory, beginning with working in sustainable agriculture and agribusiness, to focusing on global health, one common thread has been data use and analysis. He specifically guided and supported protocol development, research, data collection, and training and capacity building efforts in support of project activities and deliverables. My passion is understanding and addressing global inequities and using data to inform decision-making at subnational and national levels.
